Fair Trade Policy

Just Tshirts is commited to conducting business in accordance with the highest standard of business ethics and human rights. We appreciate that other countries have different cultural, legal and ethical systems.   We maintain long- term relationships with our manufacturing facilities based on solidarity, trust and mutual respect that contribute to the promotion and growth of Fair Trade for poverty alleviation and sustainable development and follow the below principles ;

Compliance with Law
We always require that any manufacturing facilities operate in conformance wit the requirements of applicable laws.

Health and Safety
Conditions throughout the facilities must be safe, clean and meet or exceed requirements of all applicable laws and regulations regarding health and safety .

No Child Labour
That no person is employed at an age younger than the age for completing compulsory schooling in the country of manufacture, or the age consistent with International Labour Organisation guidelines, whichever is greater.  It is illegal to employ children in factories in China. The penalties are appropriately high.  

No Forced Labour
The use of forced labour or compulsory indentured, or bonded labour is prohibited.

Harassment or Abuse
Corporal punishment or other forms of harassment, abuse or coercion whether mental or physical, are strictly prohibited.

Discrimination
Discrimination in hiring, pay, promotions, discipline, termination or other terms and conditions of employment based on personal characteristics, benefits or other legally protected criteria, is prohibited.

Gender Equity:
We require that women’s work is properly valued and rewarded. Women are always paid for their contribution to the production process and are empowered in their organizations.

Wages and Benefits
We require that employees be fairly compensated by providing wages, including overtime pay and benefits that meet or exceed all applicable laws and regulations.   A fair price in the regional or local context is one that has been agreed through dialogue and participation. It covers not only the costs of production but enables production which is socially just and environmentally sound. It provides fair pay to the producers and takes into account the principle of equal pay for equal work by women and men.

Freedom of Association
We recognize and respect the rights of employees to freedom of association and collective bargaining.

Environmental  Compliance
We require compliance with all local laws protecting the environment.  In addition, business should be conducted in a manner that minimises all waste and maximizes recycling, and which results in proper storage and disposal of hazardous substances.   Our company history is one which includes an aggressive environmentally consciousness. We pioneered T-shirts made of hemp [blended with cotton] and now we offer our ORGANIC cotton T-shirt. Alas we dropped the hemp & cotton garment as the market failed to purchase it from us.  Our ORGANIC T-shirt is offered only in the NATURAL colour because there are no certified organic dyes yet available.  Others offer coloured ORGANIC garments but we don't wish to add chemicals and lose the benefits of the organically grown cotton.
